Microsoft 365 vs. Google Workspace for Small Business

What each one gives you

Both Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace bundle business email, document tools, video calls, and cloud storage for a per-user monthly fee. The core jobs are the same; the difference is in the details and how your team likes to work.

Where Microsoft 365 shines

  • The desktop Office apps (Word, Excel, Outlook) that many people already know
  • Deep features in Excel and PowerPoint for heavier documents
  • Teams for chat and meetings, tightly tied into the rest of the suite

Where Google Workspace shines

  • Simple, fast, browser-first collaboration in Docs and Sheets
  • Very easy real-time co-editing and sharing
  • A clean, low-maintenance experience for teams that live in the browser

How to choose

If your team relies on the full power of Excel and the desktop Office apps, Microsoft 365 is usually the better fit. If you value simple, shareable, browser-based collaboration and minimal setup, Google Workspace is hard to beat. Many businesses are happy either way; the bigger mistake is running a patchwork of personal accounts instead of a proper business suite.
