How to Choose a Local IT Provider

Why local matters

When something serious breaks, it helps to have someone who can be on-site, knows your setup, and answers the phone. A local provider is easier to hold accountable than a faceless national help desk reading from a script.

Questions worth asking

  • How fast do you respond, and is that response time in writing?
  • Who actually answers when I call, a local engineer or an overseas queue?
  • How do you handle backups, and do you test them?
  • What is included in the monthly fee, and what is billed extra?
  • Can you help with our compliance needs (for example HIPAA)?

Red flags to avoid

  • No clear service-level agreement or response-time commitment
  • Long lock-in contracts with no easy way out
  • Vague pricing, or a lot of "it depends" without specifics
  • No documentation of your environment, so you are dependent on their memory
  • Pushing the most expensive option before understanding your needs

Contracts and flexibility

A provider that is confident in its work does not need to trap you. Month-to-month options are a good sign: it means they plan to earn your business every month rather than rely on a contract to keep you.

We are happy to answer any of the questions above about how we work, before you commit to anything. Start a conversation.
